Obituary for Bevan G. "Whitey" Quinn

Bevan G. Quinn, 70, a former longtime Stow resident, died peacefully Saturday, September 3, 2011 at his West Townsend home with his family by his side. Affectionately known as "Whitey," he was the beloved husband of Lynne (Edwardsen) Quinn, to whom he was married for 43 years.

Born in Concord, he was the son of the late Timothy and Catherine Lucy (Doucette) Quinn, and lived most of his life in Stow. He graduated from Hale High School in Stow in a class that totaled nineteen students, and served honorably in the National Guard. A mechanic specializing in construction equipment, Mr. Quinn owned and operated Quinn Brothers Trucking and Quinn's Repair before retiring. In later years he was employed at the Nashoba Valley Olympia in Boxborough. Music was a big part of his life, and he especially enjoyed singing and playing the piano. Since the fourth grade he sang in church choirs, including St. Isidore's Church in Stow and St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in Acton. A member of local bowling leagues, he also liked biking to stay in condition and participated in several cycling fundraisers. He loved spending time with his wife and children and their families, and always put his family first. Mr. Quinn had a wonderful sense of humor and an optimistic outlook on life that was appreciated by family, friends and most recently the medical community at Mass General Hospital.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by 7 children: Catherine Murphy and husband William, Bevlyn Quinn, Colleen Wilkins and husband Timothy, Bevan Quinn Jr. and wife Angela, Mary Stuart and husband Michael, Theodore Quinn and wife Shana, and Rose Smart and husband Robert; three sisters, Mary Ann Quinn, Norma MacKay and Janet Shanshiry; six brothers, Lawrence, John "Jake," Edward, Stephen, Robert and Richard Quinn; 13 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a large extended family. He was the brother of the late Timothy Quinn Jr. and Joseph Quinn.

Visiting hours are Wednesday, September 7th, 2011 from 4:00-8:00pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 8th at 10:00am in St. Isidore's Church, 429 Great Road (Rte 117) Stow. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Rte 62, Stow Center. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Mr. Quinn may be made to support genitourinary cancer research at the Mass General Hospital Cancer Center under the direction of Dr. Richard J. Lee, M.D. Checks should be made payable to Mass General Hospital, and sent c/o MGH Development Office, 165 Cambridge Street, Suite 600, Boston, MA. 02114. Please add on memo line "In memory of Bevan Quinn."
