Obituary for Robert Laurence Ullmann

Ullmann, Robert Laurence age 50, who grew up in Acton, passed away on Saturday, March 19th, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a lingering illness.

Born in Boston in 1960, he was the son of Laurence E. and Helen S. Ullmann of Acton. Rob was a computer programmer, first for Via Systems in Burlington, then for Prime Computer in Framingham and Process Software in Needham. His last position was as Principal Software Engineer for Lotus Development Corporation, continuing with that firm when it merged with IBM several years ago. According to his resume, he "designed and implemented Avian media streaming on multiple platforms." For the last five years he had been living in Nairobi, Kenya, where he was a contributor to and sysop on Wiktionary and Wikipedia.

Besides his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Margaret Layton of Springville, Utah, Linda Ullmann of Chelmsford, and Maryann Ullmann of Acton. He is also survived by nephew Jack Layton of Springville and numerous cousins.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, April 23, at 12 noon at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 616 Great Road, Littleton, Mass. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
