Obituary for Judith Carol (Johnson) Grasso

Sandwich, MA

Judith Carol (Johnson) Grasso, 83, of Sandwich, MA, and former longtime resident of Marlborough, MA, died on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of William James Grasso who died in 2000 and was predeceased by her longtime companion Joseph Cassidy in 2014.

Judy was born in Worcester, MA, daughter of the late Carl Oscar and Nora (Dee) Johnson. She was raised in Marlborough where she attended local schools and was a 1954 graduate of Marlborough High School. She later received her Associate’s Degree from Fisher College in Boston. She spent several years at home raising her family and eventually went to work as an executive secretary for a local company. She went to work as a computer programmer for Digital Equipment Corp. in the 70’s until retiring in 1984 to take up permanent residence along with her husband Bill in Sandwich, MA. She was a member of Corpus Christi Parish in Sandwich.

Judy leaves her 5 children, Cathy Grier and husband Jeff, Thomas Grasso, William Grasso, James Grasso and his longtime companion Victoria McGinness and Jane Grasso. She also leaves her brother Jarred Johnson of North Carolina; her loving grandchildren, Jeffrey and Mary Grier, Will and Sabrina Biggins, Jolie and Jenna Grasso; her many other relatives and friends and the entire Joseph Cassidy family she was very close to. She was also predeceased by her longtime step-mother Norma (Conway) Wells-Johnson.

Judy enjoyed cooking, classical music and playing her piano in her spare time. She never missed any of her children’s sporting events and truly enjoyed retirement with her husband Bill and later Joe. She was able to travel to many places with Bill and Joe including trips to Europe and many cruises abroad. She cherished spending the winter months In Panama City, Florida, and the wonderful summers on Cape Cod entertaining her family and friends for many years. Most of all she will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and loyal friend to all, especially all her lifelong friends and the Marlboro Shamrocks “Golden Girls."

Visiting hours will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, July 20, 2020 at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Avenue, Acton, MA. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 21st at 11:00 AM in Corpus Christi Church, East Sandwich. Private services will be held in Sandwich Town Cemetery, Rt. 130, Sandwich, MA. In accordance with current regulations for public venues, masks or face coverings are required with exceptions for those underage or who have a medical condition during all services. Social distancing will be in effect.
