Obituary for Raymond J. D. Reeves

Acton, MA

Raymond J.D. Reeves, 94, a longtime resident of Acton, MA died on Friday, May 15, 2020.

Raymond leaves his dear wife of 64 years, Margaret E. (Wilmot) Reeves of Acton. He was predeceased by his son Nicholas Reeves in 1996 and is survived by his two daughters, Elizabeth Cabana and her husband Kevin of Boxborough, MA, Sarah Clark and her husband Rick of Falmouth, MA; his four grandchildren, Andrew Ballard and his wife Angel of Malden, MA, Austin Blake and fiancé Trevor Wainfield of Arizona, Nicholas Cabana of Boxborough, MA, Benjamin Clark of Falmouth, MA; his great niece Debbie Shotton and her husband Ben of Australia along with nieces and nephews residing in England and godson Alan Elkington of Dover, England. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Ruby Reale and Iris Reeves, both of England.

Raymond was born and raised in Canterbury-Kent, England, son of the late Albert and Lydia (Bourne) Reeves. He emigrated to the states spending a short time in New Jersey before settling in Acton in 1969. He worked in the computer field for many years as a software engineer spending time with Honeywell Corp. and several other local companies. He was a member of the IEEE Computer Society and member of the Acton Senior Center. He was a past member of “Toastmasters” and was an eloquent speech writer.

Raymond had many hobbies he enjoyed in his spare time which included wood working, making furniture for his home and ball room dancing where he received several gold medals over the years. Locally he was well known for his unique talent with a harmonica, “he never left home without it”. He truly cherished getting together with a small group of friends at the Acton Senior Center entertaining all with the groups harmonica play. He leaves behind the cherished memories of a loving husband, father, grandfather and will always be remembered for his kind spirit and dry wit by all who loved and knew him.

A memorial gathering will be held at a later date to be announced and funeral services are under the thoughtful guidance of Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Avenue, Acton, MA 01720.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Raymond may be made to: Acton Council on Aging, make checks out to the Town of Acton, with “COA Gift Fund” in the memo line, and mailed to the COA at 30 Sudbury Road, Rear, Acton, MA 01720.
