Obituary for Robert J. Meier

Robert J. Meier, age 86, of Littleton, MA joined the saints in heaven on Thursday, February 13, 2020.

Bob taught at Concordia College, Bronxville, where he was awarded the Servant of Christ award for “[fulfilling] his calling as an educator with a tireless passion for knowledge, teaching biology, physics, mathematics, and computer skills to six decades of Concordia students,” and for being a “model of servant leadership, touching numerous lives through service at Village Lutheran Church, Chapel School, and beyond.” While at Concordia, he also set up their first computer center and established two endowment funds: the Harold Meier Mathematics Scholarship and the Nehemia Award for faculty.

Bob first acquired his interest in learning and teaching in a one-room schoolhouse in Alva, Oklahoma, with his father as the teacher. That interest prospered at Luther Institute in Chicago, with his father once again one of his teachers, and ultimately developed into a passion as he earned several degrees, including a bachelor’s in Education, master’s in both Physics and Computer Science, and a Doctorate of Education.

Upon retirement, Bob and his wife, Lois, moved to Littleton, MA to be close to their children and grandchildren. This gave him ample opportunity to pass his love of learning and science on to his grandchildren – inspiring them to pursue advanced degrees in science and technology. Bob found great joy in his woodworking hobby, which will live on in the pieces of furniture that he crafted for his grandchildren. He also found great joy in his fellowship at Mt Calvary Lutheran Church in Acton, where he shared his love of Christ, his love of music, and his rich bass voice.

Bob follows his parents, Harold and Martha Meier, into heaven and is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lois (nee Graesser); sister Marjorie; children Carol Fleury and husband Dean, David Meier and wife Elaine, and Stephen Meier; grandchildren Michelle Fleury and husband Andrew Fisher, Laura Fleury, Samantha Fleury, Alex Meier, and Rheanna Meier.

Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service to thank God and celebrate Bob's life on Saturday February 22nd in Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 472 Massachusetts Avenue (Rte 111) Acton with a gathering to follow in the church hall. Interment is private at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests Memorial Donations be made to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. On the memo line note “Pastor’s Aid Fund."
