Obituary for Jane Enola (Wiley) Smith

Jane Enola (Wiley) Smith, 89, of Acton, MA passed peacefully on Saturday, February 8, 2020 with her family by her side.

She was born to the late George and Enola (Bassett) Wiley on March 29, 1930 in Doylestown, PA. Jane attended school in the Buckingham Township District where she was an active member of the choral group, played piano and was the Vice President of her graduating Class of 1948. She went on to receive a BA in Education from Millersville College.

She married the late Charles E. Smith in 1952, where they lived together in Doylestown, PA. before relocating to Acton, MA. in the fall of 1966. Jane is survived by her three children and their spouses: Jack and Donna Smith, Charles and Deborah Smith, all of Massachusetts and Deborah (Smith) and James Gordon of New Hampshire. She was the proud grandmother of Melissa Smith, Ashley (Smith) and her husband Nathan Sears, Justin Smith and Bradley Gordon. Jane was the dear sister to Thomas Wiley and his wife Dorothy Wiley and the late Shirley (Wiley) McClure and her late husband Frank McClure. She is survived by her nieces and nephews as well as many dear friends including her best friend, Nancy Yerkes of Furlong, PA.

Prior to her retirement she was employed by the Town of Acton as a Librarian. She was also the organist for the Acton Congregational Church where she had been an active member for many years.

Jane lived a very full life. She loved to tell entertaining stories, cooking meals for family and other gatherings and relaxing with a good book or some yarn and knitting needles. Until her recent health condition made it impossible, Jane lived a very active lifestyle traveling with her close friends all over the country and abroad. She was an active member of the Acton Woman's Club, the Bridge Club of Pennsylvania and then of Acton, and loved to spend the winter months in Ft. Myers, Florida.

A graveside service will be held for close family and friends on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in Whitemarsh Memorial Park Cemetery in Ambler, PA. Rev. Joshua D. Gill of the Doylestown Presbyterian Church will officiate.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Acton Congregational Church, 12 Concord Road, Acton, MA on Saturday, February 22, 2020 beginning at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Paulo Gustavo França, Senior Minister officiating.
