Obituary for Robert F. "Bo" Sokolowski
Robert F. “Bo” Sokolowski, 59, of Boxborough, MA, formerly of Stow, MA died unexpectedly at home on January 3, 2020. He was the beloved son of the late Francis and Joanne (Lawson) Sokolowski.
Born in Concord on September 8, 1960 he was raised in Stow and moved to Boxborough in 1991. In 1988 Bo began his 30 year career with the Town of Boxborough with the DPW, and soon after joined the Boxborough Fire Department as a per diem firefighter. An avid outdoorsman, he loved both fresh water and deep-sea fishing, hunting and snowmobiling.
Bo was the proud recipient of the Town of Boxborough's Golden Fife Award in 2019, and according to the Town's Award page Bo "was well known to Boxborough residents as a dedicated first responder and the caretaker at the town transfer station. At the transfer station, he held a particular place of affection from the dogs in town who he generously provided biscuits to."
“Bo was the essence of a team player who consistently supported his co-workers and neighbors,” Town Administrator Ferrara said. “His selfless commitment to the community was celebrated this past June, when he was named Boxborough’s ‘Golden Fife’ award winner. He was an integral part of the Boxborough community and will be greatly missed by his colleagues and friends.”
He is survived by his son, Robert M. “Donnie” Sokolowski of Shirley; a sister Debra Sokolowski and her husband David Woelfle of Ayer; nephew Travis Woelfle, niece Leanne Sokolowski, nephew Rickey Turner; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visiting hours are Wednesday January 8th from 3:00-8:00 PM at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave. (Rte 111) Acton. Funeral services are Thursday, Jan. 9th at 10:00 am in the United Church of Christ, 723 Massachusetts Ave., (Rte 111) Boxborough followed by burial in South Cemetery, Burroughs Road, Boxborough. Rev. Cindy Worthington-Berry will officiate.
