May Xiaomei Liu, 51, of Shirley Massachusetts for 2 years and longtime resident of Acton for more than 15 years, passed away in the presence of her loving family on Saturday, December 14, 2019 after a two year fight with cancer at Dana Farber and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. She leaves behind her mother, Daohui Wang, two daughters, Rose Zhao and Iris Zhao, fiancé Michael Chen, and her sister Xiaoli Liu and brother in law Yongzhi Zhang, in the USA, and uncles, aunts and cousins in China.

Xiaomei was a graduate of the top ranked High School in Chengdu, China (Seventh High School, 1986), and received her bachelor’s degree in Engineering Physics from Tsinghua University (1986~1991). Following two years of employment in Shenzhen, China, she received a full scholarship to Boston University based on her outstanding achievements, and completed a PhD in Biophysics (1992~1997). She then worked at Fidelity Investments for 11 years (1998~2009) as a software engineer. Since 2011, she chose to become a full-time mother, focusing on the care of her two lovely daughters.

Xiaomei was always gentle, kind, and helpful. She was very intelligent and had diverse interests. She enjoyed playing volleyball and swimming in her youth. Music was a love of her life, and she played the clarinet while in college. However, most importantly, she enjoyed spending free time with her family and friends.

Xiaomei was wholeheartedly committed to raising her daughters and providing a nurturing and supportive environment. This is reflected in the success of Rose with her early admission to medical school at Boston University, and Iris winning the 2014 National Juvenile Championships of figure skating. Xiaomei was her parent’s gentle and kind child, her daughter’s comforting mother and strongest supporter; her fiancé’s great love, and her sister’s most cherished friend.

Visiting hours and a celebration of Xiaomei’s life will be held on Friday, December 20, 2019 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave. Rt. 111, Acton, MA 01720. Tel: 978-263-5333.

The burial service will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery, 104 Concord Rd, Acton, MA 01720, following visiting hours. Tel: 978-929-6642.

The reception will be provided, after the burial service, at Spicepepper Garden, 36 Great Rd, Acton, MA 01720, Tel: 978-369-8808.

Donations will be made in Xiaomei’s honor to Lung Cancer Research
