Obituary for Rita (Intinarelli) Gavin

Rita Intinarelli Gavin, born of Italian immigrant parents Joseph and Florence (Radocchia) Intinarelli in Cambridge, Ma passed on December 11th at 94 years. Rita was born and grew up in Cambridge Ma, the youngest of three children, Anthony, Clara and Rita.

She spent her youth with family in the house her father built on Valentine St. She graduated Cambridge Latin High continuing her education pursuing a secretarial degree. Rita’s graduation coincided with WWII when she began a job leveraging her secretarial skills with the government. There she met the love of her life, Martin Gavin. They were married on Sept 29th 1948.

As an avid reader, Rita transitioned from her government job to a job with Encyclopedia Britannica where she was able to work from her home in Wellesley, Ma as a proof reader, allowing her to pursue a family. After six years of marriage, Marty and Rita had their only child, Martina.

When their then 14 year old daughter was about to start high school, they moved to Weston for 8 years where Rita was a hostess for the Weston Golf Club. She would often share some of the sports celebrities she had the pleasure of meeting while there.

Upon her husbands passing in 1983, Rita acquired a condo in Natick where she was able to retire.

As an avid reader and movie fanatic, Rita spent much of her time reading or watching movies. She was always comparing her movie taste to that of the critics reviews. She maintained her list of well over 100 must see movies in priority order.

Her greatest pleasure was food. In her younger years Rita’s cooking skills shone through. With a mother who was an Italian immigrant, Rita learned to cook in true Italian style. In her later years she transitioned from cooking to dining out and found great pleasure going out to eat as often as she was able. She specialized in buffets.

She leaves behind her daughter Tina and husband Curt Wells of Harvard, Ma.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours at Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton, Ma. on Wednesday, December 18th from 9-10:15 am.
