Obituary for Amelia "Mimi" Hancock Wellington

Amelia Hancock Wellington
August 14, 1956 – November 3, 2019

Amelia Wellington, known to friends and family as Mimi, departed this life on November 3, 2019. She was born in Framingham, Massachusetts to Dr. Mark S. Wellington and Patricia S. Wellington on August 14, 1956. She was their third child. After graduating Framingham South High School, she attended Wellesley College, where she graduated in 1978.

While working as a technical writer for Apollo Computer (now part of Hewlett Packard) Mimi met Bruce Olsen, whom she married in 1987. They moved to Sudbury, Massachusetts, where their two daughters, Lily and Margaret, were born.

In 1998, the family relocated to Eagle, Idaho, where they lived until 2013. During her time in Idaho, Mimi took up quilting. She had always been a talented handicrafter, but showed great skill in quilting. She helped to start a quilting group in Eagle and became friends with many people in Idaho and throughout the Northwest, who remember her fondly.

In 2013, diagnosed with frontotemporal degeneration, Mimi moved back to Massachusetts to be with her birth family. She is survived by her daughters Lily and Margaret Olsen of Eugene, Oregon as well as her sister Barbara Currie of Framingham, Massachusetts and brothers Larry Wellington of Acton, Massachusetts and Bill Wellington of Staunton, Virginia.

A memorial service is planned for November 16, 2019 at United Church of Christ, 723 Massachusetts Avenue, Boxborough, MA, starting at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mimi’s memory be made to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (https://www.theaftd.org/). Memorial page actonfuneralhome.com
