Obituary for Phyllis (Collins) Bursaw

Phyllis (Collins) Bursaw, 87, a longtime Acton, MA resident, died peacefully at home on Monday, October 7, 2019 surrounded by her family.

Born and raised in Lexington, MA, she was the daughter of the late William G. and Rena (Wilson) Collins. Following their marriage in 1954, the Bursaws lived in New Mexico while Mr. Bursaw served in the US Air Force at Holloman Air Force Base/White Sands Missile Range before moving back to settle in his hometown of Acton. Mrs. Bursaw was a school bus driver to the Town of Acton schools for a time, and retired after 20 years as a school bus driver for the Town of Concord. She enjoyed the outdoors and with family and friends climbed most peaks in New Hampshire and Vermont. She loved to golf and in later years played several times a week. She also loved animals, especially her dog Sarah.

Mrs. Bursaw is survived by her husband Richard P. Bursaw; their children Toni Bursaw Brenn, Richard P. Bursaw, Jr. and Martin E. "Chuck" Bursaw; grandson Steven Zagwyn; great-grandchildren Tiffany, Kimberly and Jonathan Zagwyn; a great-great granddaughter Taylor A. Zagwyn; and many nieces and nephews. She was the loving mother of the late Steven A. Bursaw, and sister of the late Arthur Collins, Bill Collins, Jr., Bette Martines and Barbara Soubosky.

In accordance with Mrs. Bursaw's wishes, interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery in West Acton was private. A Life Celebration service is planned for a later date. Those who wish may make memorial gifts to either St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to Buddy Dog Humane Society, 151 Boston Post Road, Sudbury, MA 01776.
