Obituary for Karen E. (Erkkinen) Crowell

BOXBOROUGH, MA: Karen E. (Erkkinen) Crowell, 79, a longtime Boxborough resident, passed away peacefully Wednesday October 2, 2019. The beloved wife of more than 60 years to Raymond P. Crowell, she is also survived by their three sons, Scott Matthew Crowell of Springfield, OR, Keith Andrew Crowell of Lunenburg, MA and Glenn Paul Crowell of Marlboro, NH; granddaughters Amy (Crowell) Connors and Ashley Crowell; a great-grandson Maxwell James Connors; 3 sisters, Vivian Ernst and Leila Isomaki both of Indiana, and Diane Haschig of Leominster, MA; two brothers, Rev. Eric Erkkinen of Missouri and Mark Erkkinen of Florida; and many nieces, nephews and their families.

Born in Concord, MA, she was the daughter of the late Paavo and Vieno "Betty" (Maki) Erkkinen. Mrs. Crowell grew up in Maynard and Acton, MA, then moved to the family home built by her father in Boxborough. Following their marriage in 1959, Mr. and Mrs. Crowell lived in Waltham and Acton before settling in Boxborough in 1965. A former secretary at Raytheon, Mrs. Crowell chose to be a stay-at-home mother to focus on her sons while they were young. Her faith and church were instrumental throughout her life, and after her sons were grown she became the administrative assistant at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Acton, where she worked for many years. She was a member of the Mt. Calvary Church choir for over 30 years, and was a past vice president and member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League's local chapter. Mrs. Crowell especially loved time spent in Dennis Port on Cape Cod.

Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Sunday October 6th from 4:00-6:00 P.M. at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton. The funeral service will be Monday October 7th at 10:00 A.M. in Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 472 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton, with burial following in South Cemetery, Burroughs Road, Boxborough, The family suggests those who wish make memorial gifts to Mt.
