Obituary for Phillip Edward Murphy

Acton, MA

Phillip E. Murphy, 61, of Acton, MA and formerly of Reading, MA, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2019. He was the beloved husband of 26 years to Mary Ellen Savoia Murphy and is also survived by two children, Kara and Benjamin Murphy, both of Acton, MA; his parents, George and Joanne (O’Brien) Murphy of Peabody, MA; his 5 brothers, Paul Murphy of Peabody, MA, Ross Murphy and wife Wendy of Danvers, MA, Mark Murphy and Robert Murphy both of Peabody, MA, Sean Murphy and wife Mary Ellen of North Andover, MA; two sisters, Laurie Murphy of Peabody, MA, Julie Murphy of Lynn, MA; his mother-in-law, Nancy Savoia of Winthrop, MA; his two sisters-in-law, Fran Devitt and husband Les, Theresa Scalzi and husband PJ, all of Concord, MA along with many nieces and nephews.

Phillip was born in Brunswick, GA. He was raised in Peabody and was a 1976 graduate of St. John’s Preparatory School in Danvers, MA. He later received his Bachelor’s Degree from Merrimack College in North Andover, MA. He worked in the banking field for many years as an asset based lender. He was a member of St. Elizabeth’s of Hungary Parish in Acton.

Phillip was a devoted husband, father, son and brother. He truly cherished spending time with his family, especially attending his children’s sporting events and other activities. In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors tending to his yard and playing a round of golf was always special. He enjoyed listening to music and often entertained family and friends playing his guitar. His life was short but he leaves behind so many memories for all who loved and knew him.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, Sept. 6, 2019 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Avenue, (Rt. 111), Acton, MA 01720. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019 at 10:00 am in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 89 Arlington Street, Acton. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Acton.
