Obituary for Col. Hiltrud G. "Hilli" (Spors) Houle

ACTON, MA: Col. Hiltrud G. Spors Houle, U.S. Air Force retired, died peacefully Aug. 24, 2019 in Acton, MA at the age of 84.

Born in Allenstein, East Prussia, Germany, she was the loving daughter of the late Adalbert and Maria (Lietz) Spors; cherished sister of the late Ursula M. Calvert and sister-in-law of the late William C. Calvert. Hilli is survived by a niece, Christina Calvert (Michelle Jensen); 2 nephews, William Calvert (Vickie) and Martin Calvert (Donna), and great niece Maria Calvert. The beloved wife of the late Norman E. Houle, she is survived by his children Stephen P. Houle (Marc Ming Chan), Kevin J. Houle (Tracey), Maureen E. Houle, Gardena M. Abramowitz (Kris), and Jeffrey T.N. Houle (Amy); and grandchildren KJ, Tagan, Molly, Sydney, Ethan, Jake, Gram, Harry, Kate and Christopher.

Affectionately known as Hilli, she immigrated to the U.S. with her father and sister in 1951. She served honorably and faithfully as a US Air Force as a clinical nurse, nurse practitioner and later administrator from 1962 to 1984 before retiring, including a tour of duty at Clark Air Force Base in Philippines from 1965 to 1967 during the Vietnam War, where she attended to wounded soldiers before they were sent back to the U.S. She enjoyed travel worldwide throughout her career. A resident of Lincoln, MA and a former longtime Acton resident, she had many friends in the community and was a member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish in Acton.

Visiting hours are Tuesday August 27th, 2019 from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday August 28th at 10:00 A.M. in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 89 Arlington St., Acton. Interment in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Albers, IL will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Hilli's name to either the Society of Air Force Nurses, P.O. Box 681026, San Antonio, TX 78268, or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 89 Arlington St. Acton, MA 01720, confidentially assisting neighbors in need without regard to religion, politics, culture or ethnicity.
