Obituary

Littleton, MA

Robert George Dow, 89, of Littleton, MA, died Wednesday August 14, 2019 at Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley in Littleton, MA. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Beach) Dow for 56 years. He is survived by his two daughters, Marjoree Ewing and husband Melvin of Mobile, AL and Sheryl Bulger of Taylors, SC, formerly of Leominster, MA. He also leaves his grandchildren, John Moynihan Jr. of Mississippi, Robert Moynihan of Pensacola, Florida, Jeffrey Bulger of Leominster, MA and Alyssa Bulger of Lunenburg, MA.; his 7 great grandchildren along with extended family and his friends. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Melissa Bulger in 1986, his sisters, Kathleen and Doris, both of Gordon, AL.

Born in Concord, MA, son of the late George and Delima (Christian) Dow. Affectionately known as "Bobby" and "Bobby Dow," he was raised in West Concord, MA and served in the US Navy immediately after the Korean conflict aboard the USS Leyte (CV-32). He was honorably discharged and settled in Littleton in 1958. As a member of Local Union #4, he was a heavy equipment operator working for many companies through the years.

Bobby was affectionately known as “the Mayor of Littleton” since he knew so many of the townfolk. He enjoyed playing golf with nephew, Jeff Price, and other friends occasionally. His activities included a yearly vegetable garden and wood working in his amply supplied workshop. A favorite pastime was attending his grandchildren’s sporting events when they were younger. He had a love for youngsters and would take time to talk and interact with them. Of course, in his later years he couldn’t pass up a few hours at a casino or buying a daily dose of scratch tickets.

Visiting hours are Monday, August 19th from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 20th at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Central Street, West Acton.

Donations in memory of Bobby may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter, 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.

To Margie and Sherry and their families. I'm so sorry for your loss. Your Dad was such an all around good guy! He'd give anyone one the shirt of his back. He was loved and liked by many. He was there keeping an eye on my Mom after my Dad passed and made a great impression on my grandson son Tyler ,who says "OH, he was a nice old Guy!" Even when Tyler moved away Pops would always ask about him and I brought Tyler back to visit one day and Pops was in his usual spot ,his woodshop and his eyes lit up and twinkled when he saw Tyler. He loved those youngsters for sure. I believe he has moved on with all the others from Fletcher Lane and has left nothing but happy memories and alot of smiles on peoples faces. Rest in Peace Papa!!! Love, Cindy (Poulin) Sawyer
