Obituary for Henry S. "Hank" Allard III

Acton – Hank Allard, 74, long-time Acton resident, loving husband, father and grandfather, died peacefully surrounded by his family on August 4, 2019 after a long, brave battle with cancer.

Born on December 2, 1944, Hank was the son of the late Henry S. Allard Jr. and the late Louise (Leonard) Allard Grant of Lynn, MA and Hollywood, FL. He graduated in 1962 from St. Mary’s High School and went on to receive a BS in engineering from UMass Amherst and an MBA in marketing from Syracuse University. He spent his career working at numerous leading technology companies including GE, Digital, Wang, NEC and Intel. Hank was an entrepreneur at heart and was a key member in several startup companies in addition to founding his own ventures Edge Media (consulting), Edge Rep Solutions (manufacturer rep) and Edge Business Associates (business brokerage).

Hank truly enjoyed caring for others as shown by his interest in elder care through Minuteman Senior Services and his dedication to St. Elizabeth’s Church that included Eucharistic ministry, bringing communion to the sick, and grief counseling. He had a great love for sports including tennis, running, golf and biking. Hank could often be seen swimming across the lake at the family camp in New Hampshire and the pond near their home in Plymouth, MA. A true adventurer, Hank loved planning experiences with his loved ones and he particularly delighted in time at the beach. He enjoyed foreign films and cooking, and as an early riser would regularly cook amazing breakfasts for his family on weekend mornings.

No one loved coffee and lunch meetings more than Hank. He had regular meetings with friends and associates for business, networking and just the pure joy of conversation. Helping friends who were out of work look for jobs was something Hank really enjoyed, and over the years he helped dozens of people on their professional journeys.

Hank had a perpetual love for learning and a passion for history and historical figures. Anytime there was a new challenge, Hank was the first to do all the research and quickly become an expert. He was an incredible planner and had a plan of action for everything. He even held a business meeting with his colleagues from Medical Development Group (MDG) just two days before he passed to plan what he hoped would be a final program on hospice care.

Hank is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years Maryanne Allard and their children: Brian Allard and wife Sarah Kelly of Sutton, Sarah Clark and husband Dan Clark of Stow, Claire Allard and partner Chris King of Plymouth; cherished in-laws Rocco Brienzo and the late Marguerite Brienzo of Maynard; brother the late David Allard; sister Pauline Tache and the late Paul Tache of Hatfield, PA; brother Neil Allard and wife Christine Allard of Fairfield, CA; numerous nieces and nephews; and 3 treasured grandchildren Haley Clark, Zander Clark, and Jacob Allard.

Visiting hours are Friday August 9th, 2019 from 4:00 to 8:00pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday August 10th, 2019 at 10:00am in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 89 Arlington Street, Acton.
