Obituary for David J. McQuiggan
David J. McQuiggan, 79, of Shirley, formerly of Maynard & Waltham, MA, passed away on Thursday evening July 18, 2019. Born and raised in Waltham, he was the son of the late Francis J. and Florence H. (Garnet) McQuiggan. David is also predeceased by his wife of 44 years Elizabeth “Betty” (Grella) McQuiggan, their children Edward and Diane McQuiggan, a granddaughter Sydney Pareago, a brother Richard McQuiggan and a sister Shirley Slocum.
David was a graduate of Waltham High School and Bentley College in Waltham. He worked 45 years as a manager at Raytheon Company in Waltham before retiring. A resident of Maynard for many years, he was a member of the Maynard Knights of Columbus Council #2121, the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus McSweeney Assembly #400, and the Maynard Lodge of Elks #1568. He enjoyed time spent metal detecting, playing poker, travel, and winters in Florida. He especially loved dogs, and even more recently when he wasn't feeling his best he would light up when the family "puppy dogs" came to visit. A wonderful grandpa, loving father, devoted husband and a caring friend to all.
He is survived by his wife Genevieve (Panaggio) Reardon McQuiggan; his daughter Brenda Pareago and her husband Vince of Honesdale, PA, his son Stephen McQuiggan and his wife Gail of Hudson, MA; and was “Grandpa” to Oksana and Dmitry McQuiggan, and Christopher and Samantha Pareago. He is also survived by step-children Eric & Robb Reardon and their 5 children.
Visiting hours are Monday July 22nd, 2019 from 5-8pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday July 23rd, 2019 at 10am in St. Bridget’s Church, 1 Percival St., Maynard with burial in Glenwood Cemetery, Great Rd, (Rte 117) Maynard.
