Obituary

John J. Kulik, 93, a retired Captain of the Massachusetts State Police, died unexpectedly April 6, 2019 in Boston. He was the beloved husband of the late Vivian L. (Jolie) Kulik, to whom he was married for 64 years at the time of her passing in 2011.

Born and raised in Maynard, he was the son of the late John A. and Amelia (Lisaj) Kulik, and was the brother of the late Jean Buklerewicz and Stella Pearce. A graduate of Maynard High School, Class of 1943, he served honorably in the US Navy in both the European and Pacific Theatres, including the Normandy Invasion. His career with the MA State Police spanned decades, retiring from General Headquarters Special Service Unit. He then worked with Ken Olsen to establish a security division within Digital Equipment Corporation. Mr. Kulik enjoyed time with his family camping and fishing, and was a former Little League coach.

He is survived by their 7 children: Karen Grimes and husband Paul, and Steve Kulik and wife Fay, all of Maynard; Michael Kulik and wife Wendy, and Lorrie Kumm and husband Dave, all of Hudson; Janet Nelson and husband Eliot of Pepperell; Patricia White and husband Jack of Maynard; John Kulik and wife Megan Twyver of Bolton; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and extended family.

Visiting hours are Wednesday April 10th from 4:00-7:00pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton. John was a mentor and co-worker at DEC during the late 1970's. John's dry wit, practical sense of the world and simple and effective manner of conveying his thoughts taught great lessons to the group in Corporate Security. John's stellar career with the MSP left a legacy many of the younger members regarded as the standard to uphold. Everyone has a heartfelt and respectful and loving John story to tell. To his children and grandchildren and great grand children - cherish the memories you have of this fine and wonderful man. He was a great gift to all of you and to so many beyond your door. May those memories bring smiles where today tears fall.

I am Saddened to learn of John's passing. I worked for and with John on the MSP. He was an extremely capable individual, leader and mentor. Suffice to say the best I ever had the experience to work for and know. I am honored to have had the chance to have known such a good man and Trooper. My deepest and heartfelt condolences to his family. May he Rest in Peace.

My deepest sympathy to the Kulik family at the passing of Captain John, a wonderful person and crime-fighter extraordinaire in his years with State Police. He was a good friend and honorable person during his long life. May he Rest in Peace in the hands of the Angels.
