Obituary for Richard F. Clark

Maynard – Richard “Rich” Francis Clark, 75, long-time Maynard resident, retired Maynard Police Sergeant, beloved husband, dedicated family man, and cherished friend, died peacefully at home on April 1, 2019.

Born on August 1, 1943, he was the son of the late Cyril F. Clark and Julia Carlson Clark of Maynard. Rich loved his parents dearly and cared tirelessly for his mother after his father’s passing up until her passing.

Rich dedicated his life to helping others, as was evident in his care for his parents and service as a police officer. He also served honorably for six years in the Massachusetts National Guard.

A natural athlete, Rich had a great love for sports and played football and basketball. He attended Northeastern University and received his BA with a major in criminal justice. He worked for the Maynard Police Department for over 20 years. Later he served as a hearing officer at the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

One of Rich’s great joys was watching and participating in his children’s and later grandchildren’s sporting activities. He was on the sideline cheering for every athletic event. His favorite vacation was Walt Disney World, where he took his family every year from the time they were children into adulthood. He enjoyed going for walks, smoking cigars, and working outside. Rich loved the beach and could often be found snorkeling for sand dollars.

Rich is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years Mary Sweeney Clark and their children: Richard Clark and wife Kathy Clark of Marion, Cyril Clark and wife Maria Clark of Maynard, Dan Clark and wife Sarah Clark of Stow, and Katie Blanchette and husband Marc Blanchette of Downingtown, PA; sister Roberta Tibbetts and her husband Arner Tibbetts of Falmouth; numerous nieces and nephews; and their 12 grandchildren: Kaitlyn Clark, Mike Halloran, Kelly Clark, Kelsey Halloran, Colleen Halloran, Sofia Clark, Cyril Clark, Zachary Clark, Haley Clark, Zander Clark, Julia Blanchette and Emma Blanchette.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday April 6th at 10:00am in St. Bridget's Church, 1 Percival Street, Maynard, with burial following in Glenwood Cemetery, Great Road (Rte 117 entrance) Maynard.
