Obituary for Jeanne Leigh (Ochs) Peebles

Jeanne Ochs Peebles
1930 - 2019

Jeanne Leigh Ochs was born on March 28, 1930 and lived in North Quincy, Massachusetts until adulthood. She loved visiting cousins at the Hanson family farm in Framingham, MA, where her mother was raised. Jeanne graduated from North Quincy High School and went on to graduate from a business college. Jeanne spent the first part of her career as a secretary in Boston. After many years as a stay at home mom, Jeanne went back to work as the secretary at Effie Green Elementary School, Raleigh, NC. She worked at the patent law office of Dike, Bronstein, Roberts, Cushman and Fund in Wellesley, MA, and then at their head office in Boston. Jeanne served as an executive secretary for the Bird Johnson Company in Walpole, MA. Jeanne finished her career as executive secretary to the Vice President in charge of patent law at Mobil Corporation, Fairfax County, VA.

Jeanne also used her skills to proof read her husband's published works. Following retirement, Jeanne used her organizational skills in various volunteer positions, including an animal shelter, a battered women's shelter, the local Audubon society, as well as working with her church's monthly ministry of providing meals for the homeless.

Jeanne met her husband, Larry, at a church dance in Boston. Together they enjoyed square dancing, bird watching, playing bridge, and traveling through much of their 65 years of marriage.

Jeanne and Larry created a rich family life filled with their church community, camping, mountain climbing, live theater, music, games, cookouts, reading, hobbies, house chores and homework. Jeanne was a gracious hostess, opening her home to neighbors, extended family and her children's friends including an entire rowing team for the Head of the Charles Regatta. Jeanne loved being a grandmother and never missed a chance to get together with her extended family.

Jeanne passed away on February 26, 2019. She is predeceased by her husband, Larry, her parents, Mary (Hanson) and Harold Ochs, and her brother, Robert H Ochs. Jeanne is survived by her daughter Beverly (and Cameron) Temple, daughter Virginia (and Curt) Kaufmann, and son Harold (and Kathy) Peebles. Additionally, she is survived by her grandchildren Emilie Temple Miller, Arwen Temple Wentworth, Bethany Temple Robinson, Cedric Temple, Craig Kaufmann, Jay Kaufmann, Ellen Kaufmann, Julianne Peebles and Michael Peebles, along with her great grandchildren, Zachary, Alex, Mackenzie, Jared, Charis, Anna, Seamus, and Declan.
