Joanne H. Smith, 83, a longtime resident of Acton, and a resident since 2014 at Bridges by Epoch in Westford, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2019.

Born in Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late Myles F. and Gertrude (Bierweiler) Heffernan. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 58 years, Curtis H. Smith, Sr., who passed in 2014. She was pre-deceased by her brother, Myles F. Heffernan, Jr. and a niece, Marcia (Heffernan) Billings.

Mrs.Smith was employed at Arrow Automotive in Hudson, MA, the Acton Public School system as a cafeteria worker, a homemaker and a wonderful Grammy. In her earlier years, she enjoyed time spent with her family, camping at Old Orchard Beach, ME and Maurice’s Campground on Cape Cod and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.

She is survived by three children, Michael S. Smith and his wife Shirley E. (Jackson) of Ayer, Mary-Alice Mullin and her husband Thomas of Acton, and Curtis H. Smith, Jr. and his companion Kimberly Morse of Gilford, NH; three grandchildren, Jason M. Smith, Kristen E Callahan and Hollis A. Smith; two great grandchildren, Ryan M. Smith and Andrew J. Callahan. She especially loved attending her grandchildren's interests; Jason - Baseball, Hollis - Soccer and Kristen - Dance. Through photos, we showed Mom pictures of her 2 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a nephew, Myles F. Heffernan and his wife Janet of Bellows Falls, VT and a niece, Patricia Swain and her companion George Ayres of Whitehall, MD.

There will be a graveside service at Mt. Hope Cemetery, 104 Central Street, Acton, MA on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Joanne’s name to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Memorial page
