Stephen C. Staszewski, 94, a lifelong Maynard resident, died unexpectedly Sun. Feb. 17, 2019. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy V. (Sikora) Staszewski, who passed away in 2011. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, including his two sons: Stephen Staszewski and wife Roberta of Orleans, and Richard Staszewski and wife Jeanne Welivar of AZ; 5 grandchildren: Andrew Staszewski and wife Stephanie, William, Nicholas and Richard Staszewski, Calandra Bogle & husband Michael; and nieces, nephews & extended family.

Born, raised and educated in Maynard, he was a son of the late Stephen and Anastasia (Maskiewicz) Staszewski, and was the brother of the late John and Stanley Staszewski and the late Stella O’Neil. Mr. Staszewski served honorably in the U.S. Navy Armed Guard, protecting Liberty ships during WWII. A career machinist, he worked in steel and titanium for tool and die shops, retiring from Navtec in Littleton. He was most proud of his work on the rigging for the America’s Cup in 1987, and at the Louvre Museum in Paris. His lifelong passion was building balsa wood models, which kept him busy into his later years.

Mr. Staszewski loved time spent with his wife and family. He and his wife enjoyed polka dancing on Friday nights, and trips to the White Mountains, Maine and Cape Cod. He like country-western music, playing the Hawaiian pedal steel guitar in bands including The Gentlemen 4 and Shiloh. He celebrated 88 years with a tandem sky-diving jump in Pepperell.

Visiting hours are Thursday February 21st from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday February 22nd at 10:00 A.M. in St. Bridget’s Church, 1 Percival Street, Maynard with burial in St. Bridget’s Cemetery, Great Road (Rte 117) Maynard. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Honor Flight New England, PO Box 16287, Hookset, NH 03106, online at Memorial page

One of my favorite memories is dancing with Callie's Grandpa at her wedding. We will miss his visits to Arizona. Our sincere condolences to all of the family. Lynda and Barry

What an amazing man. He lived life as he chose, often times to the disapproval of his two sons - like when he jumped out of an airplane at 90 years of age. Our family always looked forward to his Arizona visits. We could listen to his life’s stories for hours. Thanks Rick for allowing us to be a part of his life. We wept upon hearing of his passing.

I was so honored to interview Mr. Staszewski just last weekend for the Maynard Milltown Project. I got a glimpse of a life so well-lived, filled with love, family, music and so many treasured memories. He showed me his model airplanes and played a recording of his music. What a talented man! I look forward to sharing the recording of his interview with his family. My condolences to all who knew and loved him. Thank you, Mary Ellen, for introducing me to your uncle.
