Condolence From: Russ Chatfield
Condolence: My sympathies to family and friends of Howie, he was truly a great guy who left an impression on everyone he touched. I had the opportunity to know Howie from Diamond Island and I can picture coming around the front of the island with Howie waving his hat and welcoming me to the island. He would always welcome me with open arms and was so kind. I have a funny story that makes me smile every time I think about it. It was about 5-6 years ago, I was working on my cabin on Diamond Island and out of know where appeared Howie, always interested in what I was doing and seeing if I needed a hand or anything. I am up on a step ladder and using a hammer and pry bar and Howie looks at me and says "Do you want a real hammer and a better crow bar", I actually think the phrase was "Why are you using a kids hammer". I laugh and say know I am fine. Well Howie dissappeared and 5 minutes later came back with the "better tools". I have to laugh, as I am half his age and here is a kind hearted man not only busting me about having inferior tools, but literally getting the proper tools to make my job easier and then offering a hand to get the job done.
With that being said, every time I turn that corner on Diamond Island I will think of Howie & Jackie on their front porch waving and welcoming me to the island. I am forever grateful to know the both of you and Howie you will be missed. I am glad that I had the opportunity to know one another. Until we meet again....

Sincerely,

Russ Chatfield

Condolence: Dear Jacki nad Family,
My prayers and sympathy reading of Howie’s death. My memories of him will always be a blessing.Evey time I meet a new Deacon in a Parish I iften compare him to Howie, a man of faith, charity and service to others. In my experince as priest he was one of the best Deacons I have come to know. Like Jesus , a Carpenter and unconditional love for others. He was highly regarded I know by both Frs. Sean and Paul when they served as Pastors as St Elizabeth’s...He was always a man you could depend upon to help. I can only imagine the pain and sadness he, you and your family experienced when Peter & Beth tragically died. Out of love for his Son he crafted a most simple and elegant casket for Peter. E and you have touched the hearts of so many others who too have experienced the loss of children. Know that you are in my prayers and thank you for sharing such a wonderdul many with the Church and so many others... Fr. Michael J. Bova Conti

Condolence From: Ray Blessing
Condolence: DeColores, Howie!

You always stood above all of us in spirit and with a love for others that few could imitate -- even if they tried exceptionally hard. Your gentleness and non-judgmental attitude showed your love of Christ and the path you chose for living your life. Some people make a name for themselves and put it on buildings; you made a name for yourself by putting in on people's heart. No one who met you ever forgot you: that distinguishing carefree smile and quick laugh was typically followed up with words volunteering to help someone in some capacity or in any way humanly possible for you which included prayers.

Words were your calling card: always kind; always with respect about or for another. Heaven is the place of origin and destination for people like you. For our benefit, I think it was God's wisdom that you should be here on Earth for 89 years; I also think it was because of the extra time needed for St. Joseph and the many, many other carpenters to build that upper-class, vast home in the Eternal City so you could entertain all of the folks who so dearly loved you in your lifetime.

With a broken heart but overflowing gratitude for your friendship,

Always,
Ray
