Obituary for Mary Jane Bockweg (Lannigan)

Mary Jane Bockweg, 95, of Stow, died on January 31, 2019. Born in Covington, Kentucky on August 26, 1923, to Albert and Margaret Lannigan, she was the second of six children. She worked at the Gibson Art company in Cincinnati during World War II while her husband, Bob, served in the 21st Infantry Regiment in the Philippines. During their 67 years of marriage Bob worked as a hotel executive while Jane devoted herself to raising their family. Together they made their lives in Covington; Hartford Connecticut; Waldwick, New Jersey; and Weymouth, Weston and Stow, Massachusetts.

Jane loved walking on the beach. She would walk for hours returning with unusual shells and interesting pieces of driftwood. She enjoyed gardening, creating beautiful landscapes wherever she lived. Her Christmas cookies and Hummingbird cakes, especially her sour cream cookies, were famous. Mary Jane took great pride in her home creating found art designed to make each room unique.

Her greatest joy in life was her family, raising five children: David (Margi) of Nevada, Gary (Robyn) of Washington DC, Gregory (Cindi) of Hudson, Lori (Rick Marzullo) of Acton, and Jeffrey of Stow. Once grandchildren started to come along, she was ready to help. She was never too busy or too tired be with the grandchildren. She always loved her babies. Her 11 grandchildren grew and rewarded her with 11 great-grandchildren. She never changed, and loved each of these new children with the same fervor.
She was the sister of David Lannigan, and the late Helen Butler, Sarah Kloeker, and Arthur Lannigan, all of the Covington area.
