Linda Copley Brown,55, passed away peacefully Friday January 25, 2019 surrounded by her family at their Boxborough, MA home. Linda was born in Boston on February 2, 1963, the second daughter of Nancy C. (Parker) and Reginald C. Brown. The family lived in Dedham until Linda was eight months old, when they moved to Boxborough. Linda had Down syndrome. She attended Concord Clinical Nursery School; Gates School, Acton; Hale Junior High School, Stow; and the Occupational Development Program at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School, graduating in 1984.
Linda worked at the Central Middlesex ARC (CMARC) workshop in Woburn, which became NUPATH. She was one of the first employees at Roche Brothers Market in Acton, starting there the day it opened. In 2005, Linda moved to a Minute Man ARC house on Pine Street in Concord and worked again at CMARC. In 2015, she transferred to NUPATH in Westford and moved to a TILL home on Thoreau Street in Concord. Linda received wonderful care and was beloved by the staff who cherished her spunk and sense of humor at NUPATH, Pine Street, and Thoreau houses.
Linda loved to swim, dance, and play the keyboard. She was an active participant in Special Olympics, Girl Scouts, and Open Door Theater, where she was in more than twenty productions. She was an acolyte at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Acton for over twenty years, and she was a longtime member of the Friday Fun Club. Linda loved rooting for her New England Sports teams, especially the Patriots and the Red Sox and was eager to tell everyone, “Did you hear the good news? The Red Sox won the championship!” Linda loved watching Lawrence Welk and the Donny and Marie Show as a young girl and knew every song from The Wizard of Oz and The Sound of Music.
Linda is survived by her mother, Nancy C. (Parker) Brown; her four sisters: Cynthia C. Nye, Old Orchard Beach, ME; Sue E. Brown, Ayer, MA; Katie P. Graham, Aldie, VA; and Jennifer C. Thornton, Malden, MA; two brothers-in-law: John Nye and Scott Thornton; her niece and goddaughter Jessie E. Graham; and six nephews: Thomas J. Graham, Daniel P. Nye and his wife Liz; Luke T. Nye; Samuel C. Nye, Adam Nye and his finance Zoe and Parker Brown Thornton. She is also survived by her aunt and uncle, Barbara and Willard T. Parker, East Dennis, MA; and her cousins Todd Parker and Amy Verdin and their families.
Linda was predeceased by her adored father, Reginald C. Brown; dear brother-in-law David J. Graham; and both sets of grandparents.
Visiting hours Fri. Feb. 1st from 4-8pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton.
