Obituary for Clora Jane (Goodwin) Jane Alvarez

Clora Jane (Goodwin) Alvarez, 81, of Vandalia, OH, passed away at the home of her daughter Michele in Boxborough, MA on Sunday, December 16, 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late Jose Arnulfo Alvarez who died in 2015.

Born and raised in Dayton, OH, she was the daughter of the late Carl Goodwin and Lena (Gaines) Dillon. She raised her two children along with her husband Jose in Trotwood, OH. She spent many years working for the Trotwood, OH, Montgomery County, OH and Vandalia, OH public school systems. She was dedicated and devoted to God as a member of First Light Church in Vandalia, OH.

She leaves her loving children, Rick Hurley Alvarez and Michele Alvarez Sedler and her husband Gary; her two adoring grandchildren, Allison and Nicole Sedler; her siblings, Robert and Michael Goodwin, Lois Hagopian, niece Pamela Bairstow as well as many other nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late James Ed, Charles and Ronald Goodwin and the late Marie Fox.

Clora had many interests in her life but her great eye for fashionable clothing and decorating is what most folks that knew and loved her remember. She enjoyed designing jewelry which she sold and donated the funds she generated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Her passion in life was her family and her devotion to caring for children. She will always be remembered for her warm spirit, a devoted wife and mother and a loving grandmother to all who cherished her.

Following cremation, Clora will be laid to rest with her husband in New Hampshire State Veterans’ Cemetery, Boscawen, NH. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service and celebration of Clora’s life on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 11:00 am at the First Light Church, 140 Elva Ct., Vandalia, OH 45377.
