Obituary for Cathy Ann Finucane

MAYNARD; Cathy Ann Finucane, a longtime Maynard, MA resident, died peacefully Friday November 23, 2018 at her home after courageously battling ovarian cancer since June 24, 2015. She was 51.

Born in Waltham, MA she moved to Maynard with her family in 1971 in time to start kindergarten. She graduated from St. Bridget’s Elementary School and Maynard High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and varsity cheerleader. Cathy earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Bentley College in Waltham and was first employed by Digital Equipment Corporation. She began her marketing career in the photonics industry for eight years with Acton Research Corp / Princeton Instruments, as well as with Acorn Deck House based in Acton, MA.

Cathy enjoyed people and especially time spent with little children. She worked at Bright Horizons for six years as a preschool educator as well as a brief stint with The Discovery Museum in Acton. She loved her most recent job at the Hudson, MA Senior Center and Council on Aging, and especially cherished her friends, many of whom she grew up with in Maynard. Her love of music spanned many genres but her favorite band was The Grateful Dead. She liked to travel and Ireland was a highlight. She was also very active in the annual Maynard Relay for Life fundraiser, and was the keynote speaker for the event in 2016 and 2017.

Cathy is survived by her parents, David & Polly (LeBlanc) Finucane of Maynard, and a brother Michael D. Finucane of Palm Springs, CA. She was predeceased by her brother Timothy P. Finucane. She is also survived by extended family including aunts, uncles, cousins, and a worldwide network of friends and their families.

In accordance with Cathy’s wishes, services are private. However relatives and friends will be invited a Life Celebration which is planned for a later date and will be announced.
