Eunice W. (Newell) Hinckley, 92, of Boxborough, MA, formerly of Bedford, MA, died peacefully Tuesday October 30, 2018 in Acton, MA. She was born in Washington, D.C. into a family who lived in the area since Civil War days. She moved with her parents, Charles J. and Emily M. (Buie) Newell to Massachusetts during WW II. Mrs. Hinckley graduated from Somerville High School in 1945 and earned an associate’s degree from Middlesex Community College. She married Kenneth M. Hinckley in Blue Hill, Maine on November 27, 1948, and the couple had two children: Carole Ann Hinckley and John Harrison Hinckley. Mrs. Hinckley was a resident of Bedford from 1953-86, then Boxborough until the present time. She loved being near the ocean; in early years she loved yachting and sailing in Blue Hill, Maine and in later years enjoyed photography and especially cherished time spent on Martha’s Vineyard.

Mrs. Hinckley was a volunteer and active in the community. She was a former member of the Church of the Messiah in Auburndale, served as secretary on the Board of Trustees for Harbor Landing in Vineyard Haven from 1986-2013, was secretary then trustee on the Board of Trustees at the Harvard Ridge Condominiums in Boxborough from 1986-2008, was a member of the Boxborough Council on Aging and correspondence secretary for the Town of Boxborough. She will be remembered for her zest for life and thoughtfulness to all.

She is survived by her son John H. Hinckley of Bucksport, Maine; grandchildren Asher Hinckley of Bucksport and Lucas Hinckley of Hudson NH; 5 great grand children; and her dear friend Frank Sibley. She is predeceased by her parents Charles and Emily, her daughter Carol, daughter-in-law Denise J Herlihy, a native of Lowell MA.

In accordance with her wishes there will be no formal services or memorials. Those who wish may leave condolence messages for her family on her memorial page at actonfuneralhome.com, and memorial gifts in her name to organizations to benefit the local community.

Mrs. Hinckley requested the following message be added to her life story: “I wish to thank my family and friends for adding the richness to my life. I always feel ‘blessed’ by my love of life and my dear friends who brought me into all my experiences and gave me such precious memories.
