Obituary for George M. Arsenault

George M. Arsenault
George M. Arsenault, 97, a Stow, MA resident since 1954, died peacefully at home on Thursday October 4, 2018. He was the loving husband of the late Bernadette M. “Bunny” Arsenault, to whom he was married for 65 years at the time of her passing July 7th, 2010. He is survived by their children, Michele Janiak and husband Dr. Bruce Janiak of GA, Judith Mulvey of Worcester, Michael Arsenault of CA, Kelly Ray and husband Jack of Stow, Becky Arsenault Wheeler and husband Ross of Hudson, and Kerry Arsenault and husband Jerry Turk of Guilford, CT; a sister Julie Justice of FL; and many generations of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, David and Regina (Huard) Arsenault, brothers Ed, Clarence and Fred Arsenault, and a sister, Bertha Rowe.

Born and raised in Winslow, Maine, he served honorably in the US Marine Corps during WWII. A carpenter specializing in residential construction, the family has a lifetime of cherished memories of time spent at the family home he built in Stow. George and Bunny were devout Catholics and founding members of St. Isidore Parish in Stow, where he served as an usher for many years.

George was a member of the V.F.W. Post #8835 in Winslow, Maine, the American Legion Post #235 in Maynard, and 3rd Degree member of the Maynard Knights of Columbus #2121. An excellent pool player from a young age, he played regularly until very recently. He also enjoyed his annual vegetable garden, candlepin bowling, furniture making, classical music, and card nights with friends. He and Bunny loved to entertain family and friends and they enjoyed travel together, with Las Vegas being their favorite destination.

In later years, he learned to bake and it was a rare day when there wasn’t a freshly baked cake on the kitchen counter.

Services and burial in Brookside Cemetery, Stow, will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests for those who wish, memorial gifts be made to local organizations to benefit the community, such as the Stow Council on Aging. To leave a condolence message for the family, please visit
