Sheila A. (Dowen) Campbell, born April 16, 1962, of Lancaster, MA, formerly of Stow, MA, passed away on Friday, Aug. 3, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 56.

Sheila leaves her two daughters, Lindsay A. Campbell of Lancaster, MA, Samantha J. Heller and husband Matthew of Franklin, MA; her 5 grandchildren, Aiden Murray, Lilah, Jaxson and Evelyn Brookman, Jocelyn Heller and was predeceased by her granddaughter, Hailey M. Campbell in 2005. She is also survived by her 2 sisters, Sandra Farrar and husband John of Hudson, MA, Glenda Caviston and partner Charles Howe of Lancaster, MA; her brother, Richard Dowen of Hudson, MA and sister-in-law, Anne Dowen of Shrewsbury, MA, wife of the late Douglas Dowen. Sheila also leaves her loving companion of 18 years, Frederick W. Hatstat III of Lancaster, MA and his children, Kelly Hatstat of Clinton, MA and her children Alex and Alyssa, Kim Hatstat of Ashville, NC, Pamela Hatstat of Fitchburg, MA, Frederick W. Hatstat IV of Leominster, MA; her 3 step-siblings, Mark Downey and wife Stacia of Bolton, MA, Donna Oldenquest and husband Ed of Fitchburg, MA, Brian Downey of Fitchburg, MA; her “bestest” friend of 50 years, Annette Fowle and husband Doug of Hudson, MA along with her former husband Dale Campbell and his partner Robin of Old Orchard Beach, ME and many, many nieces, nephews, cousins and loyal friends.

Sheila was born in Concord, MA, daughter of the late Lloyd E. and Marjorie A. (Gray) Dowen. She was raised in Stow, MA where she attended local schools and was a 1980 graduate of Nashoba Regional High School in Bolton, MA. She has resided in Lancaster since moving from Stow in 1987.

Sheila’s love for animals spilled over into her career, as she spent several years as a vet tech and then as a customer service representative for Patterson Vet Companies. Sheila’s “work” family was very special to her. People were drawn to her magnetic personality and instantly referred to her as “my friend.” She always made people feel good about themselves and also made them laugh with her whimsical sense of humor. She made such a positive impact on everyone she met; she was a true treasure.

Sheila had many interests including bowling, performing in plays, singing and shopping. Her most cherished times were spent camping with her family and friends. In her words, camping was “all about the feast” (which meant it was about family gathering together), it was her “Happy Place.” All holidays were a time to celebrate but Christmas was her favorite. Above all, her family was her true passion in life. Her grandchildren were most precious to her. Nini as she was referred to will have treasured memories to last a lifetime. How lucky are we to have known such a special person. Sheila’s legacy of love, kindness and devotion will forever and always be treasured by all who knew her.

Visitation at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave. (Rte 111) Acton, MA will be held on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018 from 4 to 8 p.m. A service and celebration of Sheila’s life will be held on Friday, Aug. 10, 2018 at 10 a.m. in Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 472 Massachusetts Ave., Acton. Interment will be held in Brookside Cemetery, Stow, MA privately at a later date.
