Obituary for George Lewis Boyden, Jr.

George Lewis Boyden, Jr. 88, a longtime Boxborough, MA resident, died unexpectedly Thursday July 5, 2018 at the LifeCare Center of Nashoba Valley in Littleton, MA.

Born and raised in Norwood, he was the son of the late George L. Sr. and Mary Catherine (MacLellan) Boyden, and was predeceased by his brother Willis Boyden, and sister Mary Lorraine Edwards Meyers. Mr. Boyden was a graduate of M.I.T. Class of 1951, where he was a member of the R.O.T.C. He married Margaret C. "Peggy" (Duff) Boyden and the couple settled in Boxborough where they enjoyed 64 years of marriage and raised their four daughters.

Mr. Boyden was first employed as an engineer at Raytheon Corp. in Bedford, MA. He then established his own assembly company while also working as a manufacturing representative for Hughes Aircraft, where he won awards for his salesmanship. He could talk to anyone and enjoyed being an active member of his community. In 2017 he was awarded the Boxborough Grange's Community Citizens Award.

Mr. Boyden's passions were singing and tomato plants. He sang the National Anthem to open Red Sox games in Fenway Park on more than one occasion, and was a member of the Intimate Opera Group for many years. He established a singing business, George's Sweet Songs, and performed for over 10 years at many nursing and long term care facilities, often with his daughters. He enjoyed researching varieties of tomato plants, settling on raising Heirloom tomatoes for another business, George's Tasty Tomatoes.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret C. "Peggy" (Duff) Boyden; daughters Suzanne Boyden, Laurie Boyden, Elaine Boyden Dupuis and her husband Christopher, and was the father of the late Bonnie Boyden. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him so much joy; Benjamin Boyden, his wife Anne and their twins Thomas and Sarah, William and Colin Boyden, and Brian and Nadia Dupuis. He will be greatly missed.
