Obituary for Robert M. Selling

Robert Monroe Selling, “Bob” to his friends, passed away peacefully on February 17 with his family by his side. He was a longtime resident of Acton and was 90 years old.

Born in Brooklyn in 1927, he was the son of Dr. Leo and Elizabeth (Anderson) Selling. Bob was married for 67 years to his wife Elizabeth (Caldwell) and son in law of the late William Rice Caldwell and Mary Jewell Caldwell. He was a graduate of Union College (NY) and held a Master’s in Public Administration from Northeastern University. Bob spent the majority of his working life as an administrator for the Social Security Administration, retiring as the Assistant Regional Commissioner in 1980. Following that he worked for the Massachusetts Department of Welfare as an operations manager, retiring in 1995. Bob served as a pilot
for the Navy during WWII. He was a long serving volunteer for his church, the First Parish Church of Stow and Acton. After he retired from the state, he served as a volunteer SHINE counselor for Minuteman Senior services where he advised senior citizens on their health care benefit options. Bob was an avid golfer and enjoyed woodworking in his free time. He particularly enjoyed spending time at the family camp on Sunset lake in Greenfield New Hampshire.

Bob is survived by his wife Elizabeth, sons Alan and his wife Maryanne and Brian and his wife Teresa, as well as three grandchildren Jonathan, Michael and Jason, his cousin Kathleen Beliveau, and well as nieces,
nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his brother Albert and his parents.

Bob was interred at the Pine Hill Cemetery in Peterborough, NH after a family service. Family and friends are invited to the memorial service on Sunday, April 22nd at 2:00pm in First Parish Church of Stow and Acton, 353 Great Rd, (on the Common) Stow, MA.
