Obituary for Bernice M. (Hatch) Coggins

Bernice Mae (Hatch) Coggins, 93, a former longtime Maynard resident, died Tuesday, January 23, 2018 in Littleton. The wife of the late Charles L. Coggins, she was also predeceased by their son Dennis Coggins and daughter Cheryl Casalinuova. She is survived by four children, Charles Coggins of Westminster, Susan Hellawell of Leominster, Michael Coggins of Rindge, NH and Deborah Tetreault of Maynard; a sister Betty Bell and a brother Robert Hatch; 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and their families.

Born in Lancaster, NH, she was one of ten children of the late Harold and Pearl (Dowse) Hatch. She moved to Maynard with her family at a very young age, and was a graduate of Maynard High School and member of the Union Congregational Church. In the early years of her marriage she focused on caring for her young family. She later worked at H.H. Scott, and was retired from Digital Equipment Corporation where she was employed for over 25 years. An excellent seamstress, Mrs. Coggins enjoyed making clothes for her children, camping, and country-western dancing and music. She especially loved time spent with her grandchildren and their families.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on Saturday January 27th from noon to 2pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton. The service will follow at the funeral home at 2pm with Rev. Gareth Evans officiating, with burial in Glenwood Cemetery, Great Rd (Rte 117 gate) Maynard.
