John Henry “Jack” Elliott
June 18, 1919 – January 20, 2018
Jack was born in Winchester, MA to Andrew J. and Sarah (Stewart) Elliott in June 1919. He was a 50 year resident of Winchester, MA, raising his own family there until moving to Stoneham, MA for a season, then to Derry, NH for a few years.He retired to Myrtle Beach, SC before finally moving to Acton, MA where he lived with his son John’s family for many years, delighting in watching his two grandsons grow up. For the last few years he has been a resident at Care One in Concord, MA.
Jack is a WWII Veteran, ranked as a Technical Sergeant and fought in the South Pacific. He received the Silver Star for bravery in battle rescuing a wounded soldier in the midst of gunfire and bringing him to safety. He also received 2 Bronze Stars.
Mr. Elliott also served as a Lieutenant on the Winchester, MA Police force for 20 years beginning in 1946. He graduated from State Police School in 1954 and F.B.I. School in 1957. Upon retiring from the police force, he became a Claims Adjuster for Aetna Casualty Insurance Co. for the next 15 years before retiring from there and devoting more time to his favorite past time playing golf. Jack was an avid golfer with 3 holes in one to his credit. He was also president of the Possum Trot Golf Club in Myrtle Beach, SC where he lived with his wife Thelma for 10 years.
Jack was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and uncle. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Thelma A. (Nurnberger) Elliott who was with him until the end. (They dated 8 years prior to being married, so were together for 80 years). He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Karen M. Elliott, of Gloucester, MA (formerly of Acton), and his grandson, Andrew J. Elliott of Rhode Island (formerly of Acton).
He was predeceased by his beloved son John C. Elliott in 2006 and his beloved grandson Mark H. Elliott in 2016. He is also predeceased by his brothers Thomas, William and Robert Elliott, and his sister Leona Poole. Jack is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Concord Road, Acton Center is private. Arrangements are under the thoughtfulguidance of Acton Funeral Home, with Mr. Elliott's memorial page at www.actonfuneralhome.com
