Obituary for Barbara A. (Depew) Roberge

Barbara A. Roberge of Acton, MA (formerly of Shrewsbury, MA), passed away on January 4, 2018, after a long illness. She was born on January 11, 1932 in Pittsfield, MA, to Francis and Doris Depew.

Barbara graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1949 and Becker College in 1951. It was at Becker College that she met Paul D. Roberge whom she married in 1953.

After college, Barbara worked as a medical secretary at Hartford Hospital. Later she began a long career at Sullivan Travel Service in Worcester, MA where she began as a bookkeeper and then became a travel agent. Barbara was extremely conscientious and highly regarded by her returning clients. She traveled extensively throughout North and South America, Africa, and Europe. One of her favorite places to visit and send clients was Hawaii.

For many years she served on the Board of Trustees and Alumni Board for Becker College. She was also a member of the Rotary Club of Worcester.

Barbara was an active communicant at St. Anne’s Church in Shrewsbury, MA. She sang in the choir, taught Confirmation classes, and was a Eucharistic minister.

Barbara truly enjoyed being with her family. She is survived by her daughter, Debra L. Minikowski of The Villages, FL and Mystic, CT, and son, Paul M. Roberge of Acton, MA, his wife Linda, and their daughters, Jacquelyn and Francine. Barbara was predeceased by her husband Paul and son-in-law Gerald.

The family wishes to thank the staffs of Rivercrest Long Term Care in W. Concord, MA and Benchmark Senior Living at Robbins Brook in Acton, MA for Barbara’s care in recent years.

In memory of Barbara, family and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass which will be celebrated on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA. A private urn burial will be held in the spring at Saint Anne Cemetery in Berlin, NH. Funeral arrangements are under the thoughtful guidance of Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave., Acton, MA 01720. There are no services scheduled at the funeral home.
