Obituary for Charles F. "Charlie" Kelley

MAYNARD: Charles F. “Charlie” Kelley, 82, of Maynard, MA died suddenly Friday June 9, 2017 at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA.

He was born December 26, 1934, the son of the late Hugh F. and Dorothy R. Kelley. He was raised in Somerville, MA and attended Somerville High School completing his education while serving as a Quartermaster Petty Officer Third Class in the US Navy. He attended Coyne Electrical School and received a Master’s Electrical License, retiring from Digital Equipment Corporation where he worked as a Security Technician. Charlie invented multiple electronic devices that were patented.

Charlie was an active parishioner of St. Bridget’s Parish, Maynard, MA where he served for many years both as an Eucharistic Minister, bringing Holy Communion to the homebound and nursing homes, and as a religious education teacher. He was a member of the Order of Franciscan Seculars, serving as treasurer and councilor. Of most importance to Charlie was his faith and his family; his grandchildren brought great joy in his life. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his son, Paul Kelley, his granddaughter Elizabeth Young, his parents Hugh F. and Dorothy R. Kelley, and his brother Joseph Kelley. Charlie is survived by his wife of 54 years Joan B. Kelley; his daughter Mary Young and son-in-law Robert of Hudson, MA; his son Charles J. Kelley and daughter-in-law Diane of Townsend, MA; his daughter Michelle Mackie and son-in-law Robert of Winchendon, MA; nine grandchildren: Joseph, Brendan and Amber Kelley; Robert, Peter, Rebecca & Kevin Mackie; and Kelly and Kristine Young; his sister Mary Spinale of Shirley, MA; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Visiting hours are Wednesday, June 14th, 2017 from 4:00-8:00pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rt 111) Acton. Funeral Mass Thursday June 15th, 2017 at 10:00am in St. Bridget’s Church, 1 Percival St., Maynard with burial in St. Bridget’s Cemetery, Great Rd (Rte 117) Maynard.
