Obituary for Marjorie Phyllis (Davidson) Bieber

Marjorie Phyllis (Davidson) Bieber
Marjorie Phyllis (Davidson) Bieber, 94, of Concord, MA formerly of Hudson, NH, Rochester, NY, and Strasbourg, Saskatchewan, Canada, died peacefully May 4, 2017 at the Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA with her family by her side. Married for 68 years, she was the beloved wife of the late Frederick J.A. Bieber, who died in 2012.

Born in Duval, Saskatchewan, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Robert A. and Emma C. (MacDonald) Davidson and was predeceased by her brothers, Presley and William Davidson, and her sisters Lorena Davidson and Helen O’Connell. Mrs. Bieber grew up during the depression years of the 1920s and '30s in a small town in Saskatchewan. A registered nurse, she graduated from nursing school at Hamilton General Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 1944. Mrs. Bieber and family relocated to Rochester, NY in 1956 and she became a United States citizen in 1964. She worked as a geriatric nurse and nursing supervisor for many years ultimately using her experience in nursing as a compliance reviewer at many nursing homes in Western New York, working into her seventies.

Volunteer service was an important part of Mrs. Bieber’s life after retirement, including five years at Park Ridge Hospital in Rochester, NY. This continued after she and her husband Frederick moved to Hudson, NH in 1998, where she volunteered for twelve years in the resource office of the Southern New Hampshire Medical Center.

For the past five years Mrs. Bieber was a resident of Newbury Court in Concord, MA where she was an active member of the book club, and was able to share her lifelong love of reading with her many friends. She tended the plants and flowers in the Duvall Chapel at Newbury Court, where she enjoyed Sunday services and the community of her fellow residents. Those who knew Phyllis were often the recipients of her talent for baking cookies. She was known by many as the “cookie lady” as she loved to take cookies to her friends, which included people from all walks of life. Phyllis was keenly interested in getting to know other people and forming friendships with them. She always had a warm smile and hug for the people in her life. She recognized and practiced the notion that to have a friend, one needed to be a friend. She will be missed by her friends and family.

She is survived by four children, Frederick R. Bieber of Boston, Susan Kennedy of Washington, DC, Andrew J. Bieber and wife Alexandra of London, Ontario, Canada and Thomas W. Bieber and wife Brigid of Boxborough, MA; eight grandchildren: Kyle Kennedy, Joshua, Hallie, Benjamin, Maxwell, John and Theodore Bieber, and Daniel Reid; as well as a large extended family and daughter-in-law Jane Bieber of Roslindale, MA.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 10th at 2:30pm at the Duvall Chapel at Newbury Court, 100 Newbury Court, Concord, MA 01720, reception to follow, 3:30 to 5:00PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Mrs. Bieber’s name to either Duvall Chapel at the above address, or to the United Church of Canada, Attn. Donna Rumpel, PO Box 187, Strasbourg, SK S0G 4V0, Canada. Memorial page www.actonfuneralhome.com
