Obituary for Joseph E. "Joe King" King

Joseph Edward King " Joe-King," age 65 of Port Saint Lucie, Florida and former Maynard resident passed away Sunday April 16, 2017 at Tradition Medical Center in Port Saint Lucie, FL.

Born in Concord , Massachusetts he was the oldest child of the late Howard F. "Coogie" King and Shirley Mae (Beford ) King. Joe attended Maynard Public Schools and Rose Hawthorne in Concord Massachusetts. After graduating from Maynard High School in 1969 Joe enlisted in the United States Coast Guard serving as a Radioman aboard the United States Coast Guard Cutters Androscoggin, Chase, Munro and Boutwell, which was recently transferred to the Philippine Navy.

After serving in the United States Coast Guard Joe began a career in firefighting serving the cities of Plantation, Lauderdale Lakes, Lauderhill and Indiantown, Florida for several years. Joe became one of the first firefighters in the Sunshine State to become certified as a licensed paramedic. He ended his working days as a CAD Designer of roof trusses a few years ago. Joe was an avid reader and a fan of all Boston sports teams especially the Boston Celtics .

Joe is survived by his sister Eileen and brother James of Lake Lure , North Carolina : brother William of Acton, MA : brother Edward and wife Kimberly ( Hayden ) of Campobello, South Carolina and niece Heather ( King ) and husband Derek "Zach” Atkins of Gowensville , SC : nephew Ryan King and Bailey ( Hovelsrud ) of Spartanburg ,SC and niece Sarah King , Campobello SC and niece ( God-daughter ) Mary King of Campobello SC. Joe is also survived by great-nephew Oliver Atkins and great niece Amelia Atkins both of Gowensville ,SC and great niece Piper Mae King of Spartanburg,SC. In addition Joe is survived by many friends and relatives throughout the local Maynard area and especially his friends and neighbors in Port Saint Lucie , Benny and Mario.

Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside commitment ceremony conducted by Father Jean Pierre Aubin at the family plot at Glenwood Cemetery, Maynard (Great Road Entrance) on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 10:30 AM . Memorial page actonfuneralhome.com
