Obituary for Joyce (Morton) Erickson (Morton)

ACTON: Joyce (Morton) Erickson, 85, of Acton, formerly of Arlington, died Friday, June 24, 2016 at the Emerson Hospital in Concord. She and her husband, Robert J. "Bob" Erickson, celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on June 3rd.

Born in Boston and raised in Arlington, she was the only child of the late Stanley W. and Florence (Fowler) Morton. Mrs. Erickson was a graduate of Arlington High School, Class of 1948. She was first employed at Swanson Jewelers in Arlington, where she was introduced to her future husband. She also worked in the insurance industry in Boston for a time in the early 1950s. The Ericksons moved to Acton in 1955 where they raised their four children. Mrs. Erickson worked at Acton Medical and later for Dr. Elmer Purcell. In 1978 she started a new chapter in her career with Digital Equipment Corporation, then Compaq and HP, retiring in 1998.

An avid gardener and excellent cook, she also dabbled a bit in antiques. She especially loved quilting, and all her creations were hand sewn. She enjoyed quilting weekends with friends and was a former member of the Concord Piecemakers Quilting Guild.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by their four children, Peter Erickson and wife Jeanne of Acton, MA, David Erickson and wife Jill of Hudson, NH, Elaine Erickson of Hampstead, NH, and Steven Erickson and wife Lauren of Hudson, NH; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton for both the visiting hours on Wednesday, June 29th from 4:00-7:00pm, and the funeral service on Thursday, June 30th at 10:00am. The graveside service in Mt. Hope Cemetery, West Acton, will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Pat Brody Shelter for Cats, P.O. Box 142, Lunenburg, MA 01462.
