Obituary for Arleene (Mathews) Egan

Arleene (Mathews) Egan, 89, a longtime Maynard resident, died peacefully Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at the Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley in Littleton. She was the wife of the late Charles N. Egan, and mother of the late Richard D. Egan.

Born and raised in Newton and Watertown, she was the daughter of the late Harry W. Sr. and Rose Dorothy (Lavoie) Mathews. Devoted to her family, Mrs. Egan also worked for a time at the former Digital Equipment Corporation after the death of her husband. A former parishioner of St. Bridget's Church in Maynard, she enjoyed knitting and reading, and especially like to help others. She was a Maynard resident from 1965 until 4 years ago when her health began to decline.

Mrs. Egan is survived by two children, Cheryl A. MacPhee of Boxborough and Paul C. Egan of Littleton; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Lorraine Peterson, June Mathews, Virginia Joyce and Harry Matthews, Jr.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on Friday, December 19th from 5:00-8:30pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton, with a prayer service to be held at the conclusion of the visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial gifts in Mrs. Egan's name to either Best Buddies Massachusetts, 45 Bromfield St, 7th Floor, Boston, MA 02108 or to the Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley Residents Council Fund for the MSU, 191 Foster Street, Littleton, MA 01460.
