Life Story for Jean (Johnson) English

Jean (Johnson) English, 85, a former longtime resident of Acton and Falmouth, died Wed. May 7, 2014 at the Westford House after a period of declining health.

Born in New Bedford and raised in the New Bedford-Dartmouth area, she was the daughter of the late John O. and Irene (Perry) Johnson. Mrs. English's favorite place was Cape Cod, and she resided in Falmouth for many years where she was also employed at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. An Acton resident since the late 1960s, she was a systems analyst for Data General and Digital Equipment Corporation before retiring, and a was longtime member of the Acton Woman's Club.

Mrs. English's passion was the theatre. For many years she was very active as an actor, producer and director at both the Falmouth Playhouse and with the Concord Players. She also enjoyed cooking and loved to host dinner parties for family and friends. She especially loved time spent with her grandchildren.

Mrs. English is survived by two daughters, Gail (Fredette) English of Townsend and Marcia Hartwell of Stow; grandchildren, Neil Fredette, and Jessica, Jason and Erik Hartwell; and a great-grandson, Ethan Cummings. She was the mother of the late Craig English, grandmother of the late Denise Fredette, and sister of the late Eric Johnson.

Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Monday, May 12th, 2014 from 5:00-8:00pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton. Private graveside services will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery, Acton Center, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial gifts in her name to the Alzheimer's Association of MA and NH, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
