Obituary for George O'Brien

George O'Brien, a life long resident of Maynard died December 22, 2012 at Emerson Hospital in Concord. He was 92 years old. He was the husband of the late Barbara (Falk) O'Brien to whom he was married for 57 years at the time of her death in 2005.

Mr. O'Brien was born and raised in Maynard to Anthony O'Brien and Margaret (Paul) O'Brien, and was a graduate of Maynard High School. Mr. O'Brien was a veteran of World War II, serving honorably in the US Navy aboard the destroyer class USS Chauncey, and later the USS Arcturus, both in the Pacific Theater. Mr O'Brien married Barbara (Falk) O'Brien in 1948, settling in Maynard to raise their family. A mechanic by trade, Mr. O'Brien owned and operatored O'Brien's Service Center on Powdermill Road in Maynard, and enjoyed his work very much. In later years Mr. O'Brien spent time traveling with his wife throughout the country with their trailer, most often to Florida where they would spend the winter.

Mr. O'Brien is survived by his two daughters, Christine Lee Dietrich and her husband Gary of Leicester, and Barabara Anne Childress of Honolulu, HI. He is also survived by two grandsons, Nathaniel Waluck and his wife Meja and Jordan Waluck, two great-grandchildren, Iran and Dean, and son-In-Law, Bruce Waluck and his wife Susan of Harvard. Mr. O'Brien was predeceased by a brother, Joseph O'Brien, and two sisters, Mary Nugent and Emma Jackson.

Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Friday, Dec. 28 from 6-8pm with a prayer service at 7:45pm, at the Acton Funeral Home 470 Massachusetts Ave. (Rte 111) Acton. A graveside service will be held on Saturday Dec. 29 at 1pm in St. Bridget's Cemetery Great Road (Rte 117) Maynard.
