Obituary for John A. Oman

ACTON: John A. Oman, 70, of Acton, MA, died peacefully Mon. Oct. 8th, 2012 at the Life Care Center of Acton. He was the beloved husband of 51 years of Carol A. (Miller) Oman. Born in Worcester and raised in the greater Worcester area, he was the son of the late Aaro Hakala and Lillian P. (Jappinen) Hakala Oman, and step-son of the late Henry Oman. A mechanic, Mr. Oman settled in Acton in 1970 and from the late 1970s until his retirement owned and operated Acton Gulf, and Oman Automotive on Central Street. He especially loved fishing and hunting, and time spent with his yellow lab, "Jessie."

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Michael Oman of Dallas, TX, Craig Oman and wife Jillian of Acton, and Brian Oman of Acton; two grandchildren, Corey and Amanda Oman; two brothers, Henry and Richard Oman; and two sisters, Pauline Hakala and Nancy Shepherd.

Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside service on Thursday, October 11th at 1:00pm in Woodlawn Cemetery, 104 Concord Road, Acton Center. Rev. Dr. R. Gary Heikkila will offiicate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Oman's name to The Jimmy Fund, c/o Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
