Obituary for James J. Murphy, Jr.

James J. Murphy, Jr.
James J. Murphy, Jr., 79, a longtime Stow, Ma resident and a native of East Cambridge, passed away peacefully in his home Thursday, July 5, 2018 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Nancy R. (Miano) Murphy; their children Karen Murphy, Kim Barron, Susan Dieker and Chris Murphy; and his cherished grandchildren, Patrick, Maggie, Alex, Jackie, Hanna, Christopher, Charlotte and Liza, each of whom he was very proud.

Jim was a graduate of Rindge Technical High School, Class of 1956, where he was the Valedictorian and voted “Most Sincere.” He then graduated from Boston College, Class of 1960, where he played end #81, on the football team. After graduation he worked at United Aircraft in Hartford, Mitre Corp. in Bedford, and Digital Equipment Corp. for 28 years in Informational Technology as a Software Service Manager, working on the PDP 7, 9, 11 and 15 computers, and the Mass Highway Department.

Most important in his life were his family and his Catholic faith. He spent quality time with his family, attending sports events and family vacations on the Cape and Islands. He was a eucharistic minister for the Emerson Hospital and St. Isidore's, where he was a communicant and volunteered with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Pastor Council and hospitality committee for post funeral gatherings. He stayed close to God and encouraged his family to do the same.

Visiting hours are Monday July 9th, 2018 from 4:00-8:00pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday July 10th at 11:00am in St. Isidore’s Church, 429 Great Road (Rte 117) Stow, with a reception to follow.
