Life Story for Gertrude E. (Knowles) Lamie

Gertrude E. (Knowles) Lamie, 78, a Maynard native and longtime resident, died peacefully Friday June 22, 2018 at the Life Care Center in Acton. She was the beloved wife of the late John J. Lamie, Sr., who died in 2008.

Ms. Lamie is survived by their three children: Judith Anne Quirk, Janet Marie Lamie and John J. Lamie, Jr; grandchildren Starsha M. Tupper, Krystal Ann Tupper, Stormyapril Tupper, Mark T. Quirk and Damien Lamie; sisters Dorothy Fromm, Georgianna Carlyle and Joyce Ann Knowles; her dear niece Dorothy E. (Davis) Kalloch; 4 great-grandchildren, two step-grandsons, many nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was predeceased by her parents, Herbert and Mabel (Smith) Knowles; brothers James Knowles and Herbert Knowles Jr.; and sisters Barbara Walcott, Mary Tatten and Emily Davis.

Ms. Lamie attended the Maynard schools and was first employed by Dennison Manufacturing for 12 years. She later worked for Digital Equipment Corporation for 14 years, then for Stratus for 4 years before retiring. She enjoyed playing bingo with her friends and trips to Mohegan Sun. She is remembered as devoted to her family and she cherished time spent with them. She will be greatly missed.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time. The family is planning a Life Celebration, details of which will be announced.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made in memory of Gertrude E. Lamie to the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center in support of the Cancer Outcomes Research Program and Early Detection. Gifts can be made online at www.massgeneral.org/donate or mailed to the MGH Development Office, Attn. Carrie Powers, 125 Nashua Street, Suite 540, Boston, MA 02114. Checks should be made payable to Massachusetts General Hospital, and please remember to reference "In memory of Gertrude Lamie" on the memo line. Memorial page www.actonfuneralhome.com
