Obituary for Anthony A. Martinelli Sr.

Anthony A. Martinelli Sr., 88, of Stow, MA and former longtime resident of Sudbury, MA passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, June 4th surrounded by his loving family.

Anthony was the husband of 62 years to the late Dorothy (Ward) Martinelli, the love of his life, who died in 2013 and father to his beloved daughter, Alicia, who died in 1986. He leaves six children and ten grandchildren: Diane M. Weeks of Falls Church, VA and her children, Madeline and Henry Weeks; Anthony A. Martinelli Jr. and his husband Paul Thornblad of Tewksbury, MA; James J. Martinelli of Sudbury, MA; Grace M. Kepler and her husband Tom of Boston, MA and their children, Lenora and Kieran Kepler; Christine Martinelli and her husband David Garvey of Marlborough, MA and their children, Lane, Kendall, Austin and Dillon Garvey; and Vincent G. Martinelli and his wife Jill Gibson of The Hague, Netherlands and their children, Nicolo and Fiona Martinelli. Anthony was the brother of the late James Martinelli of Vienna, VA and also leaves several nieces and nephews.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Frank and Mildred (Rosa) Martinelli. He grew up in Falls Church, VA and graduated from St. John’s College High School and then Catholic University, where he received a degree in Electrical Engineering. He had a long and successful career in high technology sales.

Anthony was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. His greatest passions in life were his family and friends. He loved spending time with people and cherished the opportunities to attend his grandchildren’s events and be involved in their lives. He traveled widely with Dorothy and loved to explore new hobbies. Anthony most enjoyed family gatherings, at homes or at favorite restaurants, with lots of love, laughter, and food. He was a card game enthusiast, a voracious reader, and never met a crossword puzzle he couldn’t complete.

Visiting hours will be Friday, June 8th from 4 - 7pm at Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rt. 111) Acton, MA. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 9th at 10:00 am in St. Isidore’s Church, 429 Great Road, (RTE 117), Stow, MA. Private burial to be held in St. James Parish Cemetery, Falls Church, VA.

Flowers may be sent or donations in memory of Anthony may be made to: M.G.H. Cancer Center, 125 Nashua St., Suite 540, Boston, MA 02114
