Obituary for Dennis G. "Gugs" Kuipers

Dennis G. "Gugs" Kuipers
Dennis G. “Gugs” Kuipers, 84, longtime resident of Boxborough, MA, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side at the home he built with his father. He leaves his loving wife of 61 years, Claire (Trabucco) Kuipers.

Dennis was born in Arlington, MA, son of the late Gerben H. and Mary (Callahan) Kuipers. He was raised in Arlington and Lexington, MA and graduated from Lexington H.S. He later received a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Northeastern University. He was a Veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army until being honorably discharged in 1956. He resided in Boxborough, MA since 1965 and worked as an Electrical Engineer for many years with Mitre Corp. in Bedford, and MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Lexington until retiring in 1993. He was a founding member of the Boxborough Minutemen; served on the School Committee for both Acton-Boxborough Regional H.S. and Minuteman Regional Vocational Technical H.S., and served on the Finance Committee in Boxborough.

Besides his wife, Dennis leaves his children, Cheryl Barwise and her husband Robert of Sterling, MA; Deborah Thomas and her husband Michael of Dracut, MA, and was predeceased by his son, Dennis J. Kuipers. Dennis is also survived by his adoring grandchildren who fondly referred to him as “Gugs”, Scott, Matthew and Emily Thomas; Timothy Barwise and wife Addison; Leah Barwise and fiancé Daniel Fougere. He was predeceased by his sister Alida Coluzzi and is survived by her husband, Nelson Coluzzi, and leaves his sister-in-law Phyllis Fitzgerald, wife of the late Joseph Fitzgerald, along with many nieces and nephews.
Dennis will be affectionately remembered as the “king of one liners” and for his unique style of telling long stories. He was notorious for sneaking treats to all his granddogs. He was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather. The memories he leaves behind will be cherished by all who loved and knew him.

Visitation Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave. (Rte 111) Acton. Services and burial will be private. Memorial page
