Obituary for Mary (McElaney) Wall

Mary (McElaney) Wall
Mary (McElaney) Wall, 95, of Acton, MA, died Friday, January 5, 2018 at the Emerson Hospital in Concord. She was the beloved wife of the late Henry Joseph Wall, to whom she was married for 64 years at the time of his passing September 26th, 2007.

Born in Boston, Mrs. Wall was raised in Charlestown and Dorchester, one of eleven children of the late James and Hannah (Harkins) McElaney. She graduated from Salem State College, where she met her husband Henry. The couple married on November 11, 1943 while Mr. Wall was serving in the US Army Infantry during WW II. After the war, the couple lived in Gilbertville, MA before settling in Acton in 1956. Mrs. Wall was employed at several local companies as an administrative and executive assistant. The Walls retired in 1980 and lived in Ogunquit, Maine and later Kailua, Hawaii, where they were active in the community and especially enjoyed their time before returning to Acton in 1997. Mrs. Wall loved to read and was an accomplished painter. Her Catholic faith was very important to her, and she is remembered for her generosity to many charities.

She is survived by 8 children: Maureen Wall of Morrisville, VT, Therese Simeone and husband Paul of Acton, Henry J. Wall Jr. and wife Linda of Sebastian, FL, Jeanne Wall and husband Joseph Pipik of Boston, VA, Stephen Wall and wife Minh of Winchester, MA, Clare O’Brien and husband Rick of Billerica, MA, Timothy Wall of Dallas, TX, and Virginia Wall and husband Thomas Wallerstein of Ashby, MA; a sister Dorothea Feeley of Port St. Lucie, FL; and brothers Charles McElaney of Port St. Lucie and Joseph McElaney of Patriot, IN. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and their families, and in-laws.

Mrs. Wall’s family thanks the Acton Nursing Service and Minuteman Senior Services, both of whom provided support that allowed her to remain independent and in her own home until very recently. They are also grateful to St. Elizabeth of Hungary’s Eucharistic Ministry to the Homebound, who faithfully visited and administered Holy Communion regularly in Mrs. Wall’s later years.

Visiting hours are Saturday, January 13th from 9:00-10:30am at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton. The funeral Mass will follow at 11:00am in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 89 Arlington Street, Acton, with burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Central Street, West Acton. Flowers are appreciated, and those who wish may make memorial gifts to the Friends of the Acton Nursing Services, Inc., P.O. Box 541, Acton, MA 01720. Memorial page www.actonfuneralhome.com
