Obituary for Paul Edward Smith

Paul Edward Smith
Lowell, MA: Paul E. Smith, of Lowell, MA (formerly of Westford, MA) died on January 1, 2018 after a short battle with cancer. He was 57 years old.

Paul was born on June 30, 1960, in Concord, MA, to James E. Smith and Kathleen M. (Hinds) Smith of Alton Bay, NH (formerly from Maynard and Westford, MA).
He graduated from Nashoba Technical High School, in 1979, and upon graduation he began his work career as a machinist at the family business, Precision Machinist Company. Paul was a talented and valuable craftsman in the machine shop for many years. He was a tinkerer and inventor—able to solve practical problems with creative solutions. For a time, he was an avid beekeeper, making honey that he sold in local shops. He loved animals, and Fluffy, his affectionate cat, will miss taking long naps with him. Paul leaves his long-time companion, Alice Njuguna.

Paul is survived by Kathleen and Jim Smith his loving parents, who always offered him support and hope for his future. He leaves his sister, Sandra Shapiro and her husband Joshua Shapiro of Westford, MA, his niece, Lindsey van Winkle of Seattle, WA, and nephew, Bradley Price of Ayer, MA.

Family and friends are invited to visit Saturday, January 6, 2018, from 11 am-12 noon at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Avenue, Acton, MA. A Life Celebration service will follow at noon at the funeral home. Urn burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul’s memory may be made to Merrimac Valley Hospice, attn. Development Office, 360 Merrimack St, Building# 9, Lawrence MA, 01843, or the charity of one's choice.
