Obituary for Theresa P. (Carvotta) Massa

Theresa P. (Carvotta)  Massa
Theresa P. (Carvotta) Massa, 83, of Sudbury, MA died Friday October 27, 2017 at Care One of Concord with her family at her side. She was the beloved wife of Michael Massa, to whom she was married for over 65 years at the time of his passing on April 17, 2017, and was predeceased by her oldest daughter, Angela DeRosa, who passed away in 2005.

Mrs. Massa is survived by three children: Michelle Sawyer and husband Robert of Sudbury, Louis Massa and wife Lorie of Shirley, and Mary Barbagallo and husband Ed of Maynard; grandchildren, Michael Sawyer and wife Tina, Jessica Barbagallo, Daniel Sawyer, Marycatherine Massa, Joseph Barbagallo, Emma Massa and Michaela Barbagallo; great-grandchildren Amber, Dean, Derrin and Laila Sawyer; son-in-law Robert DeRosa; sisters-in-law, Josephine Miele and Carmela Porfino; and nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Born in Hingham, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and RoseMary (Saprito) Carvotta, and was predeceased by two brothers, Pat and Frank, and a sister Carmela. A graduate of East Boston High School where she was a cheerleader, and prior to her marriage she worked as a scribe for a law firm. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Massa lived in Maynard before settling in Sudbury. Mrs. Massa loved being a stay-at-home mother, taking care of her children. amd throughout her life her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her top priority. Later she was a retail clerk at the Potting Shed, Paulann’s Fashions and the New Idea in Maynard. A member of the Maynard Emblem Club, she enjoyed bingo, knitting, yard sales and “going upstreet” to shop. She volunteered at the elementary school when her daughter, Mary, was a student, and for many years gave her time to babysit at church and for those in need in the community.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on Friday November 3rd from 4:00-8:00pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rt 111) Acton. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday November 4th at 10:00am in St. Bridget’s Church, 1 Percival St., Maynard, with burial following in St. Bridget’s Cemetery, Great Road (Rt 117) Maynard.
